Suggested Reads (and listens) – My Favorite Books, Blogs, and Podcasts

We all want quality content to consume, here is my list of suggestions when it comes to everything money.

I am only comfortable suggesting or commenting on the things I have consumed myself and really resonated with. I am always consuming new information, and there is a significant amount of it out there. If you have any suggestions of titles, sites, or podcasts that you enjoyed please leave them in the comments.

Books

The Millionaire Next Door: The Surprising Secrets of America’s Wealthy

This book was really an eye-opener to what real wealth looks like. We really are trained to view wealth as in the movies. Gossip Girl, The Kardashians, etc… But the true people with wealth are the people who care about their money and spend it with intent. The real benefits this book provided to me were the motivation and validation that I am following the real path to building wealth. This book is a staple in the personal finance world for a reason. I highly recommend it.

The Simple Path to Wealth

For someone who doesn’t feel entirely comfortable investing and doesn’t want to spend a lot of time managing their investments, this book is absolutely perfect. It makes you feel really comfortable that the world of investing doesn’t have to be complicated to be effective. When I read this book I would have put myself in the category of literate in investing, but not confident. I definitely knew the basics but there was still a lot of room to grow and learn. That was a pretty perfect time to read this book. I gained a lot of knowledge and confidence after reading this book. I don’t feel like it completes my overall education in stock investing, but it gave me confidence that I knew what I was doing at a time when I was starting to invest larger sums into the stock market.

Quit like a Millionaire

I blew threw this book like nobody’s business. It was full of helpful information. It’s less well-known, but I really suggest you read this one. My money nerd came out in her in-depth explanation of how to distribute your retirement funds to take full advantage of tax-free accounts like 401K and Roth IRAs. There was one main point I truly couldn’t get behind though, which was her idea that buying a house wasn’t financially beneficial. I felt there were a lot of points missing from her perspective. I do believe it is good to hear both sides of every argument. Either way, it was a great read and she has a great story that can relate to nearly anyone.

The Richest Man in Babylon

I loved this book. It was written almost 100 years ago and still reigns true. A remarkable feat. That may turn you off, I know I would have been, but it has so many great takeaways and perspectives and is told in such a unique way. It’s not told as a self-help book, it’s a bunch of stories. I guess you could compare it to how you would learn lessons from bible verses, but for finance. If you’re ever getting tired of the personal finance books out there today switch over to this one you won’t regret it.

Blogs

The Fioneers

This blog is one that I really resonate with. It follows my same ideology on how to walk the FIRE path. Something referred to as slow FI. Many early retirees reach retirement and realize they could have taken steps earlier towards living their ideal life far before reaching FI. This blog is all about creating the lifestyle you want before you actually reach FI.

Bigger Pockets

For those of you interested in real estate investing I highly suggest you look up Bigger Pockets. They have everything, a blog, calculators/analysis generators, a Podcast, and Books. An amazing source of information for everything real estate. I also follow their Instagram page for great nuggets of information.

Our Rich Journey

The Our Rich Journey YouTube Channel is where I had my first introduction to the FIRE movement. Their blog and YouTube videos are great sources of information.

Podcasts

ChooseFI

This is my go-to podcast for finance. They put out so much content and it focuses on finances but branches into life overall (usually as tangents, but in a good way). They have amazing guest speakers all the time. I benefit so much from their knowledge.

Marriage Kids and Money

Great podcast! My second go-to for money-related topics, and then they also touch on marriage and family. It’s a very wholesome podcast. I love that it’s all life-encompassing. Everyone would benefit from listening, not just families.

The Mad Fientist

The first podcast I ever listened to. He doesn’t publish new episodes much anymore, but I binged all his existing episodes and it is still a favorite of mine.
