Wow, I kind of can’t believe I actually pulled it together enough to actually start something here. My poor husband has been there for all my rollercoasters. I’m the person who’s intensely all in on something or completely all out. So this project has been through many waves of intensity on both sides, and evolved through many forms, starting from a diary.
And what started as a project for self-interest has evolved into something bigger. The desire to create a community of people who share a common interest and goal, and are here to help each other. Because being good with money can feel daunting. When in truth it is simple… Notice how I said simple, not easy.
One of the many iterations of this blog was the name Easy as FI. FI refers to Financial Independence. And I was going to have some cute FI logo in the shape of a piece of pie. Although it encompassed the general idea I wanted — that Finance doesn’t have to be hard. I couldn’t get past the fact that I don’t actually think Financial Independence is EASY.
I went to school for graphic design and still teach it on the side. But, anyone who knows me well enough knows that I am kind of obsessed with money. But not in spending it — in saving it. I’m the weirdo who spends her downtime reading articles on 401ks, investing, and early retirement… for fun (but since you are here doing the same thing, maybe I found my people). Design and Finance? It’s an interesting combo for sure, but I want you to think of the last time you saw a financial website and thought… wow that’s pretty (another reason I felt this was a calling).
There is so much to be done in the way of simplifying complex financial topics and making money interesting and inviting. I think it will allow me to create great things for a field that isn’t known for being pretty or well-designed.
I know that people who know better, do better.
I really want everyone to know enough to make sound or at least well-thought-through financial decisions. But not everyone knows where to start, what they could improve, or even has the desire to spend the time learning this stuff. I know I can provide at least one nugget or building block to anyone who comes here, something new that helps them live a better more freeing life.
And to do that I need to get started.
So this is me starting.
